Demirhisar Engineering: ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 site system

Demirhisar, which carries out infrastructure and housing projects, had 8 to 10 active sites a year and each site worked with its own practice. OHS and environmental certificate scoring in public tenders was on the agenda.

Approach

• A site template system: the same risk assessment and environmental plan structure on every new site
• Contractor and subcontractor management procedure, induction training and PPE checklists
• Environmental controls for excavation, concrete, chemical and waste management
• Monthly site internal audits and a monitoring dashboard from head office
• A permit-to-work system for work at height, excavation and electrical safety

Result

The certificates were obtained with a sample of two sites. The accident frequency rate fell 43 per cent in the first year after the project and an advantage was gained in technical scoring in public tenders.
